Turnbull: The Great Dumb-Down
Liberal frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull has accused the media and politicians of treating Aussie battlers with contempt, by dumbing down complex issues into one-line sound bites.
Speaking at the Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland, the federal member for Wentworth said it has never been easier for people in public life to get away with telling lies and with a glib one-liner.
The former opposition leader also says the standard of political debate in Australia has slipped in the past year, and insists that it’s the job of politicians to tackle the big issues and explain them.
