Sea Creatures inhabit Gallery trees
The Gallery invites the community to come and see the fantastic Tidal inspired sea creatures made by Nixon Street Primary students in the trees next to the Gallery.
Tidal Tree is an ongoing education program between Nixon Street Primary and the Devonport Regional Gallery. This project runs alongside Tidal.12 – City of Devonport Art Award, which is a biennial art award hosted by the Devonport Regional Gallery and supported by the Devonport City Council.
Tidal Tree is a hands-on art project that invites students from Nixon Street Primary to build tidal inspired creatures from recycled plastic bottles students have gathered from their homes.
This year three classes participated in workshops lead by Gallery staff who taught students new techniques using plastic as a creative medium as well as discussing the ideas surrounding the Tidal.12 exhibition, such as marine health and clean waterways.
The workshops were a great opportunity for Gallery staff to connect with the students and talk to them about the importance of exhibitions that have an environmental message like Tidal.12.
The student’s sea creatures will be installed in the trees next to the Gallery and will remain there for the continuation of Tidal.12 – 7th December – 27th January 2013.
The Media is invited to the launch of Tidal Tree on Thursday 13th at 11:30am. The students and teachers from Nixon Street Primary will be present to celebrate their hard work.
The Tidal.12 program is now available online and at the Gallery, it is packed full of events and workshops for children, adults and families. Download a copy at the Gallery website. www.devonportgallery.com
