Billed as ‘part competition, part festival, all fun’, International Mural Fest in Sheffield, Tasmania is inviting artists to submit entries for the 2013 event.

And with a whopping prize pool of $27,000, this week-long ‘paint off’in the Town of Murals has never looked so good.

Previous winner and five-time finalist, the new Arts Manager Julian Bale said Mural Fest was founded on the Aussie spirit that everyone who wants to have a go is welcome.

“All artists are invited to submit entries – from beginners to seasoned professionals,” Mr Bale said.“It doesn’t matter whether you’ve painted a mural before or not, if you have the desire to have a go, we want to hear from you.”

Very fitting for this year’s theme, Wild and Free.

“I don’t know of any other art competition offering the same experience and benefits as Mural Fest,” he said.

Now a highly prestigious event in the Tasmanian Arts Calendar, the 2013 winner will receive $12,500, and their mural a place in the new Walk of Fame.

Other awards are Highly Commended, Visitors’ Choice and People’s Choice.

In addition, finalistsreceive$1,000 for their participation and are provided with accommodation and paint. Not to mention loads of attention.

“The opportunities for artists in this event are unparalleled,” Mr Bale said. “Apart from the great prize money, there’s no other competition I know of that you get paid to paint in, and which provides such wide exposure.

“We’re also keen to focus on assisting artists to sell their murals after the event.”

As a seasoned finalist and 2012 Guest Artist, Mr Bale said the public interaction, fun events, and camaraderie between the artists creates an electric atmosphere.

And if the impressive 4.8m x 2.1m size seems daunting, you’re welcome to find a mate and paint in pairs.

For your chance to make a big impact, go to www.muralfest.com.au to download the entry form or contact Julian on 0447 370 008. Entries close January 18, 2013.
