This year we wanted to do something different for our end of year production. Education is changing. The NBN is almost here. Social media is everywhere… So working with Big hART and Tilt Vision we are making our own hard-hitting live online news/interview/variety show… (LIVE IN THE STUDIO IN FRONT OF YOU – OUR AUDIENCE!) and then webcasting it to the world… So…

WE VOTE SOON is a live online show based on the theme of “Heroes” and it asks:
Do all Heroes wear capes?
Can we be Heroes, even if its just for one day?
If we were heroes what would we be passionate about?
How would we make a difference?
Can social media make us more heroic?
What does it mean to be a hero today?
How can we be heroes… if we can’t even get our voice heard?

THEN WE REALIZED…
WE VOTE SOON…AND…
WE LIVE IN A MARGINAL ELECTORATE…AND…
BETWEEN US WE HAVE 5623 FACEBOOK FRIENDS!
WE CAN BE HEROES OF DEMOCRACY!

More than just another High School production, WE VOTE SOON combines live interviews, Skype interviews, opinion, breaking news, live bands, songs, studio dancers, Memes, flash mob heroes, audience surveys, hero-videos and the weather (from some weird little angry guy called George).

WE VOTE SOON ALSO FEATURES:
INTERVIEWS WITH FAMOUS OLD PEOPLE… (‘cause hey, they need a voice too) PEOPLE LIKE:
Sid Sidebottom – where young people ask the tough questions like “Sid, what’s with the name?”
Robyn Archer – Robyn set up 10 Days on the Island Festival… and now she’s in charge of a The Centenary of Canberra Festival – “100 years in Canberra. what’s she got planned?” and “How is she celebrating the nation’s young people in the nation’s Capital?”
Michael Chugg – The guy, who brings all the famous bands to Australia, grew up in Launceston… who knew? So why aren’t they coming to Wynyard? We want more live music and we vote soon!
George Clooney – well nearly – Actually Kerry Armstrong, she knows someone who knew him… so that’s good. And she’s one of the country’s greatest actors. If she was a hero what would she change?
Nick McKim – The guy, you know the guy, who does the thing with the government thing, to make things happen… wonder if he knows we vote soon?
Christine Milne*; Peter Garrett* (*well we’re still trying – our people are talking to their people. But they better say yes because… we vote soon!)

AND FEATURING SPECIAL GUEST LIVE COMEDY PERFORMER: Glynn Nicholas – Who was once a friend of that guy off “Talking About My Generation.”
WHY THIS SHOW?

Well, because the NBN is almost here, and that’ll change heaps of stuff in schools… and because we wanted to get in early with the webcasting thing … and because some of our grandmothers have bad hips and can’t always get out to see the school production so now they can watch it online at home … instead of gambling. (Gambling is a tax on the poor – and WE VOTE SOON… there’s a question for Sid.)

AND ALSO… Because as students we get to expand our skills by working with industry professionals to produce our own LIVE TV show and stream it LIVE on the web. And we get to ask important local and national politicians stuff. Interesting stuff about things that affect us and our community, and maybe they’ll listen when they realise that… WE VOTE SOON!

The first WE VOTE SOON series kicks off December 5th to 8th 2012 at Wynyard High School and explores the theme of ‘heroes,’ see you there, or at home watching in your pyjamas… (well, we won’t be able to see you, that’d be weird… too much flannelette.)
