Tobacco: Light a Candle and think of the Victims
Candlelight Vigil
Parliament House Lawns
Wednesday 24 November
7 pm to 9 pm
570 Tasmanians die every year from tobacco related diseases. 218 died in 2009 from lung cancer alone.
In 2001 there were 73,000 smokers in Tasmania, in 2012 there are 83,000.
The latest ABS statistics show that 45.8% of young men are smokers in Tasmania, which means nearly half our children have a smoking father.
We want to humanize these numbers.
These are real people dying of cancer, heart disease and chronic respiratory diseases, not just numbers.
If you have had a family member, friend, colleague, work mate, patient or client, die of a smoking related illness, you are invited to join with us, light a candle and think of them in peace and remembrance.
