Island is delighted to announce that funding has been secured from Arts Tasmania for 2013.

In a considered turnaround (no state government funding was awarded for 2012), the merits of one of Australia’s oldest and most respected – and Tasmania’s only -literary magazine have been recognised.

This year, emergency funding from the Australia Council afforded the magazine an opportunity to revitalise the organisation’s brand and strategise a new future for it.

Island has published the work of many of Tasmanian and Australian writers of international significance and will continue to do so as well as provide a unique opportunity for emerging writers around the world in the form of Islet, the online site for emerging writers (currently in hiatus).

Island has an exciting publishing agenda for 2013 as well as an array of cultural events that will be announced shortly.

Island, which partnered with the Emerging Writers’ Festival, the Asia Pacific Writers and Translators and Festival of Voices in 2012 will continue to work in creative partnerships around the state and around the world.

There are some very exciting business and cultural partnerships that will also be revealed soon.
