Organisers are hailing the success of the 2012 Works Festival held on Elwick Bay, Glenorchy.

The local and quirky arts Festival was staged over four days, concluding with today’s extremely well attended Sunday People’s Day event.

Festival spokesperson, Alderman Chris Lucas estimated some 3000 people attended Peoples Day on the final Sunday enjoying near perfect weather.

“It has been fantastic to see this new cultural precinct on Elwick Bay really show its potential as a place for major outdoor cultural events” said Alderman Lucas.

‘ This week the Festival staged a major arts education event over the first two days, which was attended by more than 500 school students, before leading into the packed weekend program’

Patrons enjoyed seven major artworks across the park and two sound-stages, including sound installations, temporary public art and local films, including the first Tasmanian appearance of the Megaphone Project, an interactive park installation by Melbourne artists Maddy and Tim Humphrey, which has appeared in major Festivals in Australia and north America

Staged as a major festival of arts and community by Glenorchy City Council every two years, the Festival was held for the first time as an outdoor Spring Festival in the 1.5 km of foreshore parkland on Elwick Bay.

Organisers will be carefully listening to patrons feedback before beginning planning for the next Festival in 2014.
