A humble Tasmanian bachelor is set to confirm the Freycinet Peninsula’s reputation as one of
Australia’s most romantic destinations.

Dave Walker, the lead character in an innovative social media campaign, will launch the Freycinet
Tourism Association into summer, as the tourism body embraces social media for the very first time.
The Dave’s Failed Proposals campaign centres on Dave, a loveable everyday guy who has proposed to
six different girls over the past 14 years and received a ‘no’ from every single one.

Viewers will be asked to submit a suggestion on how Dave should propose to the new love of his life in
Freycinet and hopefully, finally get a ‘yes’.

If Dave chooses to use their submission they will also win their suggested ultimate romantic weekend
in Freycinet.

Tourism Industry Council Tasmania CEO Luke Martin said the campaign was supported by the ‘Tourism
Businesses in the Digital Age Program’ being funded by the Tasmanian Government, and applauded
the bravery of the Freycinet Tourism Association in tackling the unknown.

“The operators in Freycinet have really embraced Dave and it’s going to be exciting to see the
campaign progress,” said Mr Martin.

“We know this is not a world first campaign, but it is just great to see tourism operators embracing
new technology and the opportunity of social media to promote their region.

“Freycinet is known the world over as a place of extraordinary natural beauty.

“What we’re hoping is that this campaign will encourage people to utilise social media to do some of
their own research on the region, and learn more about all the different activities and experiences you
can have on the Freycinet Peninsula.

“I think there’s a little bit of Dave in all of us and I think people are going to want to help him in his
quest for marriage.”

The campaign was launched today and will run through until October 22. The public is being
encouraged to interact with Dave on Facebook (facebook.com/davesfailedproposals), Twitter
(@helpdavepropose), YouTube (youtube.com/davesfailedproposals) and the website
(www.davesfailedproposals.com).
