Economics of Same-Sex Marriage

A Panel Discussion chaired by Alex Johnston of Southern Cross News with:

Bruce Felmingham, Director IMC-link
Alexis Wadsley, President Economic Society (Tasmania)
Rodney Croome, Tasmanians United for Marriage Equality

Do the numbers stack up for the LegCo?

The Tasmanian House of Assembly just passed the Same-Sex Marriage Bill 2012.

We’ve heard the moral arguments. We’ve heard the ethical arguments.

We’ve even started to hear the economic arguments.

The Economic Society of Australia – Tasmania Branch have our hands on economic analysis that claims that due to first mover status, Tasmanians could benefit by at least $96 million.

We believe this analysis is worthy of debate.

As there are some Legislative Councillors undecided on this Bill , and with the LegCo to debate the Bill during the sitting week of 25 – 27 September, there is no better time to crunch the numbers.

Come and hear our panel of “dispassionate” economists with “unbiased” proponents and “impartial” opponents of the Bill, discuss “Do the numbers stack up for the LegCo?”

Date: Monday 24 September 2012
Time: 6.00pm for a 6.15pm start
Location: Long Room, Parliament House, Hobart

Please RSVP to ecosoctas@ecosoc.org.au by 12 pm on Monday 24 September 2012 to ensure there is enough seating.

Unfortunately we have been unable to secure a panellist who is from a group against the Bill.
