A Tasmanian good news story
I am proud to have a granddaughter at the Friends School in Hobart.
I have recently received a copy of the school ‘Focus Newspaper’ of August 2012, a student publication. The Friends School had no less than five Olympians, all of whom had attended the school, competing in the 2012 Olympic Games in London: Eddie Ockenden, Captain of the Bronze medal winning Kookaburras Hockey Team. The rowers: Kate Hornsey who won a silver medal, Terry Hoare, Sam Beltz and Karen Davies the stroke in the gold medal winning American eight.
I would like to know if there is any other school in the world that could claim such a record.
People are sometimes down on this magical island of Tasmania, which has so much to celebrate. I suggest that this feat would indicate that our schools and the facilities available to them here in Tasmania are some of the finest in the world as a result our students punch well above their weight.
This is a Tasmanian good news story.
