Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association chief executive Jan Davis said all Tasmanians would be appalled and horrified at the senseless killing of 50 newborn lambs at a York Plains property recently.

“It appears they have been bludgeoned to death and left where they fell,” she said.

“Somebody, somewhere has to know who is responsible for this. They must tell the police. You cannot allow people with this sort of mentality to get away with this senseless and wanton act.

“No-one can condone this inhumane slaughter.

“We know that some rustling of sheep takes place from time to time and you assume that is for monetary gain or to put meat on the table. It doesn’t justify it, but at least you know the reason. This, though, is just appalling. The farmers involved are distraught; and we’re all very upset.”
