South Korean whaling plan condemned
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has condemned a South Korean move to begin whaling and has instructed Australia’s top diplomat in Seoul to express the government’s opposition to the news.
South Korea announced it intended to start “scientific” whaling for minkes at an International Whaling Commission meeting in Panama, due to frustration at the moratorium on commercial whaling.
Ms Gillard told reporters in Melbourne today that she was “very disappointed” by the decision.
