Renewing Scotland … and Tasmania?

Posted on

The UK’s Farmer Weekly reports a big boost to the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology at Strathclyde University with the granting £6.7m from the Lowlands & Uplands European Regional Development Fund, adding to the £89m of capital funding already secured from a range of partners.

The report goes on to say the centre will allow industry to work with academic groups, researchers, engineers and graduates to develop concepts through to commercialisation.

The research aims to more than double the scale of research investment from £70m to more than £150m over the next five years and create 500 new jobs.

The report quotes Energy Minister Fergus Ewing: “Scotland leads the world in renewable energy, with astounding green energy potential and vast natural resources, and we have a responsibility to make sure our nation seizes this opportunity to create tens of thousands of new jobs and secure billions of pounds of investment in our economy.”

What a pity we are could not tap into the Lowlands & Uplands European Regional Development Fund.

Could solve a few of our problems!
