Tasmanian businesses and individuals are being urged to get involved in 2012 WorkSafe Tasmania Month to help
spread vital work health and safety messages to the Tasmanian community, with registrations to hold an event
closing soon.
WorkSafe Tasmania campaign spokesperson Kevin Harkins said people can register to hold a work health and safety
focussed event at one of the free venues across the State during the Month.
“Alternatively, organisations can run an event at their own venue on any day during the Month, and present on a
health and safety topic of their choice,” Mr Harkins said.
“Holding an event during the Month has the potential to showcase your business as a work health and safety leader
in Tasmania and can have positive impacts on profile, retention and recruitment.
“WorkSafe Tasmania Month runs from 1 October – 2 November 2012 and aims to get everyone talking about, and
acting on work health and safety issues.
“By participating in the Month and sharing their knowledge, businesses will also be taking positive steps to help
others avoid becoming a health and safety injury statistic.
“Events registered to date include practical workshops on the introduction of the new model Work Health and Safety
Act to be introduced in 2013 and seminars on safety obligations for sub contractors. Events will also be presented by
Injury Prevention and Management, Unions Tasmania, the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the
Safety Institute of Australia.”
People can register to hold an event at any one of the free venues around the State on the following topics:
• Health, wellbeing and exercise
• Injury management and return-to-work
• New and young workers
• Stress and fatigue management
• Bullying and harassment
• Industry specific issues, such as asbestos
• WHS law and policy.
