MOONAH ARTS CENTRE: Gretel and the Teramachi

Posted on

Concert: Friday April 27

Gretel and the Teramachi are an acoustic group currently based in Tasmania. Strongly influenced by folk music, key creative , singer/songwriter Gretel Templeton, writes uncomplicated melodies paired with lyrics of raw sincerity.

Gretel will be performing a solo acoustic set, showcasing the groups distinctive sound and featuring the natural photography of Cez B Photography in a special one hour evening concert at the Moonah Arts Centre on Friday 27.
Melodic vocals and unique instrumental textures are a central part of the Teramachi sound, which comes drenched in layers of harmonies, strings and fat acoustic guitars. Reminiscent of earthy songstresses such as Sarah Blasko and Holly Throsby the Teramachi has a fundamental Australian sound.

Gretel’s quiet unassuming presence on stage captivates audiences as she holds them in her hand and leads them on a musical journey which transports audiences to the cold Tasmanian climate and invites them to sit around the fire and drink cups of chai and forget about the chaos of life. But never taking herself too seriously, a giggle or two always breaks out on stage.

With songs about everything from the meaning of life to a pet cat, Gretel’s musical output typifies the raw essence of heart-on-sleeve creativity.
