VETERANS GRANTS IN TASMANIA

Veterans and ex-service people in Tasmania will benefit from Saluting Their Service grant funding announced yesterday, Senator Stephen Parry said.

“Across Tasmania two veterans’ organisations will benefit from $3,560 in Saluting Their Service grants. The Beaconsfield RSL Sub-branch will receive funds to assist in the maintenance of a decommissioned Leopard tank displayed in RSL Park and the RAAF Association (North West Branch), will receive funds to assist in installing a plaque in Air Force Park, Ulverstone, to commemorate men and women from North West Tasmania who served with the Royal Australian Air Force in all wars and conflicts.

Senator Parry said these grants will enable appropriate acknowledgement and respect for the roles played by men and women from our local community who are serving or have served our nation.

“I recognise the valuable role of veterans’ organisations in our community. I know that dedicated volunteers operate most of these organisations and I believe that it is important that we do all we can to support their work.

“I am pleased that funds are still available to assist veterans’ organisations in our local community. Other funding for veterans’ advocacy and support has been cut by more than $8 million under the current Labor Government. I am also concerned that the Government is yet to establish a budget to fund commemorative events associated with the Centenary of the ANZAC landing in 2015”, Senator Parry said.
