Tassie Store, a combined one-stop online store for quality Tasmanian products and tourism, has been launched in Hobart. It will only sell products that are made, grown or created in Tasmania, and promote the State as a visitor destination.

Dr Steve Chau, Managing Director of Verdant, the Tasmanian company that developed the website, said “Tassie Store is a portal showcasing the state’s unique products and experiences. In a digital global economy it is essential for businesses and social enterprises to embrace technology and access national and international markets.”

Dr Chau, who has a PhD in eCommerce, said “Tassie Store is focused on Tasmanians working together to collectively market the Tasmanian brand to the world. It doesn’t matter whether or not a supplier already has a website because this is an additional marketing channel toshowcase unique Tasmanian products.Tassie Store’s suppliers are located in all areas of the State. One of the suppliers, Graeme Mace, is an artist from Marrawah in the far North West.”

Launching the website, Ruth Downham, glass artist and tourism operator from Woodbridge Hill Hideaway and Glass, said “I have signed up as a supplier for Tassie Store because it’s a really good opportunity for me to put my products online and it’s showing off Tassie.”

Products listed on the site so far include jewellery, craft and books, as well unusual items such as elopement packages and online coaching.

“The success of Tassie Store will depend upon getting a critical mass of suppliers and customers. Tassie Store is encouraging Tasmanians to ‘Tweet for Tassie Store’ and let their friends and relatives interstate and overseas know about the website” said Dr Chau.
