The future leaders of Tasmania’s skilled industries from the south of the State will be
recognised and celebrated tonight at the Skills Institute Awards 2012 being held at
Wrest Point in Hobart.
Minister for Education and Skills Nick McKim said it was wonderful to be able to
acknowledge the achievements of such a significant and diverse group of individuals,
who formed a vital part of the State’s future.
“A highly skilled workforce will take Tasmania forward with many vital benefits to
individuals, employers and communities across the State,” Mr McKim said.
“Employment-based learning – including apprenticeships and traineeships – is a vital
part of moving Tasmania forward and tonight’s award recipients play an essential
role in the future of Tasmanian industry.
“With continued commitment to growth and learning, each of these individuals has
the potential to be at the forefront of their chosen field, inspiring innovation and
growth and encouraging more people to follow their own paths to career success.”
Mr McKim said the Skills Institute was committed to supporting and enabling the
State’s skilled workers to further their careers by developing relevant and practical
training in collaboration with Tasmanian employers and industry.
“The collaborative nature of the partnership between the Skills Institute and industries
across the State is demonstrated in the generous donations and sponsorships of the
award prizes,” he said.
More than 50 awards were handed out at the first of the Skills Institute award
ceremonies in Burnie last week, with the final ceremony to be held in Launceston on
Tuesday.
