Penelope Ann, Greens candidate for Hobart in the coming Legislative Council elections, today congratulated Senator Bob Brown and the Tasmanian Greens on their 40th Anniversary.

“The founding members of the Tasmanian Greens were ahead of their time in recognising the importance of the natural environment.” she said.

“Tasmanians can be proud that the Tasmanian Greens were the world’s first Greens political party. There are now Greens representatives in all levels of government in Australia and we are now recognized as the third force in Australian Politics.” Penelope Ann said.

“Greens are working at all levels of Government in Australia to ensure a healthy, democratic, peaceful and sustainable environment for our future.” she said.

“In Tasmania we do not yet have a Greens Legislative Councillor and the Upper House is out of step with current concerns. I urge the people of Hobart to Vote 1 Penelope Ann on May 5th to ‘Green the Upper House’” she said.

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Tasmanian Greens, Senator Bob Brown will give the third Annual Greens Oration on Friday 23rd March at 7.30pm in the Town Hall. www.greenoration.com.au
