Help make Tasmanian workplaces safer and healthier

Posted on

With more than 9,700 workplace injuries reported across the State in 2010, businesses and
individuals are being urged to get involved in WorkSafe Tasmania Month to help deliver important
work health and safety messages to the Tasmanian community.

WorkSafe Month spokesperson Robert Gozzi said WorkSafe Tasmania Month featured an extended
program in 2012 and would run from 1 October – 2 November.

“WorkSafe Month is designed to get Tasmanians talking about and acting on work health and safety
issues,” Mr Gozzi said.

“By registering to hold an event at one of our free venues across the State during the Month,
businesses and individuals can share their knowledge about work health and safety.

“Alternatively, organisations may wish to run an event at their own venue on any day during the
Month and present on a health and safety topic of their choice.”

Mr Gozzi said last year more than 3,800 Tasmanians registered to attend around 140 health and
safety events held across the State.

“This year, two weeks of events will be held in Hobart and Launceston and one week in Burnie.

There will also be events held on the East Coast, the West Coast and on King and Flinders Islands,”
he said.

People can register to hold an event at any one of our free venues on the following topics:

• Health, wellbeing and exercise
• Injury management and return-to-work
• New and young workers
• Stress and fatigue management
• Bullying and harassment
• Industry specific issues, such as asbestos
• WHS law and policy.
