Glenorchy Gardens fire
I would like to firstly express my condolences to the friends and family members of the deceased
individual as the result of a fire at Glenorchy Gardens this morning.
Glenorchy Gardens is an over-55 private rental retirement community operated by a national
organisation based in Queensland and is a member of the peak body the Retirement Villages
Association.
Members of Aged and Community Services Tasmania take the safety and wellbeing of their
residents and clients seriously and actively participate in fire evacuations and emergency
procedures on a regular basis to ensure staff are well-drilled. Additionally, they satisfy and exceed
regulatory requirements for fire safety and emergency planning.
The aged care industry works within the framework specified by the Australian Government to
ensure residents, community care clients, relatives and staff members are part of a positive and
constantly improving environment of quality, personalised care.
