Flimsy school plan caned

JUST one page of the State Government’s new strategic vision for education is available to the public.

The one-page plan, plus an additional six pages of internal paperwork, took the Education Department six months to prepare and involved consultation with about 300 people statewide.

When the State Opposition asked for all documentation for the development of the plan, in a Right to Information request, they were told it was unavailable because “the information is simply contained in people’s heads and not capable of being reproduced”.

The strategic plan outlines the department’s vision for the next three years.

Despite the department’s $1.3 billion budget, the publicly available document is considerably less detailed than strategic plans for many other State Government departments.

Some of them have strategic plans up to 30 pages long.
