PENELOPE ANN: A MUCH-NEEDED PROGRESSIVE VOICE IN THE UPPER HOUSE

Penelope Ann
Greens Legislative Council Candidate for Hobart

Tourism entrepreneur and teacher, Penelope Ann, today officially launched her campaign to become the first Greens representative in Tasmania’s Upper House.

“Hobart traditionally delivers a strong Green vote and I hope that voters will embrace this opportunity by voting Green and sending a strong message for reform to the Upper House,” said Ms Ann.

“As a Greens’ candidate, you know I will stand up for the public interest over corporate vested interests, and work to deliver positive reforms instead of blocking necessary change.”

“The Upper House needs a progressive voice that will not back a failed business model in the forests sector as many MLCs have recently threatened.”

“I will vote to protect Tasmania’s high conservation value forests, to support millions of job-creation dollars flowing to our regions, and to support a timber industry which can finally stand proud, strong and prosperous.”

“Tasmania cannot afford the destructive blocking attitude from some in the Upper House that risks dragging our State back to a commodity-driven backwater.”

“I stand for developing and maintaining our island’s lucrative clean, green and clever brand.”

“I will fight for a $1 bet limit on pokies, reform of state-based political donation laws and I will back marriage equality.”

“I will oppose the divisive and controversial Gunns’ proposed pulp mill, which poses a direct threat to the health and prosperity of Tasmanians.”

“I will promote the interests of small-business owners.”

“My real-world experience and background in tourism, the arts, business and teaching, and my ‘can-do’ approach will help me tackle the obstacles standing in the way of Hobart becoming a leading ‘liveable city’.”

“I see fantastic opportunities for Hobart to capitalise on its many strengths, by developing infrastructure to encourage cycling and walking, utilising our railways, promoting a diversity of businesses and industries and nurturing the arts.”

“Hobart voters want to get a real person who will stand up against vested interests in to the Upper House. They want someone with Greens values, real-world experience and a can-do approach. I am the candidate to deliver,” said Ms Ann.

• PENELOPE ANN: HOBART’S CANDIDATE TO GREEN THE LEG CO

Nick McKim MP
Greens Leader

The Tasmanian Greens today proudly launched Penelope Ann as their endorsed candidate in the Legislative Council election for the seat of Hobart.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said the Upper House needed a wake-up call and that Penelope Ann is it.

“The Upper House needs a spring clean and Penelope is the candidate to Green it,” said Mr McKim.

“Penelope is a small-business owner, who is well-connected, popular and who has a can-do approach.”

“With Upper House members threatening to lock Tasmania into a forestry business model with no future, there’s never been a more important time to have a progressive voice in the Upper House.”

“Penelope will support the renewal of Tasmania’s regions which will flow from the IGA, as well as protect native forests and help the industry become more sustainable and prosperous.”

“For Hobart, Penelope will be a loud and clear advocate for the interests of small businesses, which are key to our economy.”

“Whether supporting increased pedestrian zones or fighting for Hobart’s railway, Penelope is on the side of responsible business owners.”

“Unlike some of the other Legislative Council candidates for Hobart, voters know exactly where they stand with Penelope Ann.”

“I encourage Hobart residents to make history, vote one for Penelope Ann and finally Green the Upper House,” said Mr McKim.
