Pollies raise over $45,000 for Tasmanians with diabetes
Tasmanian politicians will come together at the finish line of Diabetes Tasmania’s PolliePedal’12 to
celebrate raising over $45,000 for Tasmanians living with diabetes.
The annual event has raised over $290,000 since 2006 and this year participants rode through east
coast communities from St Marys to Orford in support of the 1,200 east coasters with diagnosed
diabetes.
MLC Greg Hall has been on every Tasmanian PolliePedal, and this year was joined by Vanessa
Goodwin MLC, Glamorgan-Spring Bay Mayor Bertrand Cadart, Hobart City Alderman Helen Burnett
and others to complete the three-day, 254km ride.
Diabetes Tasmania CEO Caroline Wells said PolliePedal was the organisation’s flagship fundraising
event, which aimed to connect participants with local Tasmanian communities to raise awareness of
the risks associated with diabetes.
“PolliePedal is as much about raising money to support Tasmanians with diabetes as it is about
connecting with regional communities to raise awareness of the condition” Ms Wells said.
“This year’s event has already raised more than $6,000 online and people can still donate at
www.diabetestas.com.au or www.everydayhero.com.au/event/polliepedal12 or by calling
1300 136 588.”
