Hawks stars to visit fans at Calvary
With the first bounce of the 2012 AFL season just over a month away, several of
Hawthorn’s 2008 premiership superstars will jet into Hobart today to visit patients and
staff at Calvary’s Lenah Valley Campus.
Amongst the players making the trip is current skipper Luke Hodge, Chance Bateman,
Michael Osborne and local hero Grant Birchall.
Former All-Australian and Norm Smith medallist Luke Hodge said the players were
looking forward to the visit.
“We are all excited to return to Tassie for our Community Camp, it’s always a bit of fun
and the players really enjoy it,” Hodge said.
“It’s a great chance to engage with the community in lots of different activities and
programs.
“Our Tassie members are such an important part of the club and it’s a good opportunity to
get to know some of them.”
Calvary Business Development Manager Fiona Onslow said the day would include a
sausage sizzle for staff, with all funds raised going toward Calvary’s Relay for Life team.
“We’ve asked staff to don their favourite team’s colours for the day, so we might try and
keep Geelong and Collingwood fans on separate sides of the room,” Ms Onslow said.
Ms Onslow said the Hawks administration had approached the hospital and were very
keen to lend a hand.
“It’s a fantastic initiative by the Hawthorn Football Club, and I know that everyone at the
Lenah Valley Campus is really looking forward to meeting some of the players who
they’ve only ever seen on TV.”
“I’m sure the players will have a great time, and hopefully the visit helps to bring a smile
to some of our patients.”
