Wilkie/Gillard meet to discuss poker machine reform

Posted on

The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, met with the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, in Hobart this afternoon.

“The two-hour meeting was productive and there was a spirit of goodwill,’’ Mr Wilkie said.

“The focus of the meeting was poker machine reform. As discussions are ongoing I don’t intend to offer a running commentary and expect to be able to provide a detailed public update later in the week.’’

“I also took the opportunity to impress upon the Prime Minister the importance of the Tasmanian forest peace deal. She was able to tell me that the Federal Government does intend to continue to work with the Tasmanian Government to progress this historic opportunity to protect the forests, end the social division and put the forestry industry on a sustainable footing.’’
