Regional Arts Fund

What do an arts project involving senior citizens and circus performers, a music project coming out of Risdon Women’s prison and a contemporary arts exhibition from the west coast all have in common?

All benefitted from the financial support provided through the Commonwealth Regional Arts Fund.

Tasmanian Regional Arts (TRA) is pleased to announce the opening of the Regional Arts Fund (RAF): Regional Quick Response Grants and Round 1 of Community Grants for 2012.

Last year TRA awarded in excess of $214,000 to artistic endeavours through the RAF program. TRA is again keen to continue to support Tasmanian artists and Tasmanian organisations to pursue creative and exciting projects in 2012.

TRA’s Executive Director Paul Jenkins believes the program is a solid public investment in communities.
‘With every dollar spent in this program generating $3.11, the RAF program is one initiative that clearly supports regional economic activity through the arts’ said Mr Jenkins.
RAF Manager Eunice Horne is encouraging all artists with creative ideas to apply for funds to bring their creative work into fruition.

‘In 2011 we supported so many amazing projects. Tasmania’s artists have wonderful imaginations. We funded projects with such inspiring names as Space Invaders; Flotilla; Gone to Ground; The Unconformity Matrix, and Restore. All of these great titles reflect the amazing projects coming out of regional Tasmania’ said Ms Horne.

Creative processes previously funded include commissioning script writing, musical arrangements, music and performance, song writing as well as work for youth theatre, circus and theatre production. Recipients are listed on our website and on the Office for the Arts website alongside all other RAF funded projects nationally.

The Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund supports regional communities, arts groups and artists to create works that are high-quality, locally distinctive and made for varied audiences. The Regional Arts Fund aims to achieve sustainable cultural development in communities across regional, remote and very remote Australia by facilitating cultural partnerships and networks, supporting the professional development and employment of regional artists, and by funding community arts projects.

The programme objectives and application forms are available on TRA’s website. To discuss any project ideas you have and whether this funding is suitable for you contact TRA’s Head Office at Latrobe. Applications for Round 1 close on 16th March 2012. Projects cannot begin before the 1st July 2012 and must be completed by December 2012. Round 2 closes 16th August 2012, for projects starting after 1st January 2013.
