The South Hobart Progress Association Inc. (SHPA Inc.) is disappointed and concerned that the Tasmanian State Government has chosen to reject all the tenders lodged for the disposal of the former historic Macquarie Street State School in South Hobart, including the non-conforming tender from this Association.
The intransigence of Government ministers to even meet with members of the Association to discuss our very constructive options for future community access and use is frustrating in the extreme.
In fact, the lack of courtesy and respect continues, as there has not even been any acknowledgement of our tender application. Instead, the community has been locked out of the sale process as the Government has now placed the property on the open market.
Most worrying of all, the SHPA Inc. has also been advised, informally, that the State Government may now be preparing to initiate a process to relax conditions on use of the site to allow for greater range of development options.
