Statistics show bullying on the rise in Tasmanian workplaces

Posted on

Statistics to be released today by WorkCover Tasmania show the number of workplace injuries caused by bullying and harassment in Tasmanian workplaces has more than doubled over the last five years.

In 2006, there were 42 reported injuries caused by workplace bullying and harassment, with this number rising to 95 in 2010.

Caroline Dean, trainer and consultant from the Skills Institute of Tasmania, will be presenting a course on how to effectively prevent bullying in the workplace today as part of WorkSafe Tasmania Month.

Ms Dean said the course was a great way to educate workers on issues surrounding bullying and other anti-social behaviour.

“The workshop is designed to deepen participants understanding of bullying and provide practical skills and strategies to address issues at a cultural level,” Ms Dean said.

“Workplace harassment and bullying can not only affect the individual, it can have a lasting negative effect on the culture of a working environment.”
