Nine southern Tasmanian based organisations were today recognised in the 2011 WorkSafe
Tasmania Awards, demonstrating the commitment by businesses in the region to ensuring workers
return home safely at the end of each working day.
WorkCover Board member Bob Gozzi said the Overall Winner of the 2011 WorkSafe Tasmania
Awards was Kraft Foods, a multinational food company based in Claremont, where it manufactures
moulded chocolate products.
“Kraft Foods received the Award for its dedication to supporting and encouraging healthy and happy
workers and considering all aspects of their health,” Mr Gozzi said.
“In January 2010, Kraft Foods took over Cadbury, enthusiastically taking on the existing health and
wellbeing program. Demonstrating its commitment to Cadbury’s Fit for Life philosophy, Kraft
decided to construct an onsite gym which is now open 24/7.
“Caroline Langley from Injury Prevention and Management was also recognised, taking out the
winner of the ‘Best individual contribution to workplace health and safety (OHS part of duties)
category.
“Caroline has over 20 years experience in the occupational health and safety environment and most
recently took on the role of Chairperson for the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists 2010
Hobart Conference.
“The Conference attracted a record attendance from delegates around the world and lifted the
profile of health and safety in Tasmania – a success that can largely be attributed to Caroline’s
commitment and dedication.”
Mr Gozzi said other southern based companies recognised in the 2011 WorkSafe Awards were
Forestry Tasmania, Hazell Bros Group, Friends’ Early Years, David Eyles from Aurora Energy, Glenn
Scurrah from Nystar Hobart and Daryl White from The Hutchins School.
“The range of diverse Award winners demonstrates the variety of organisations making work health
and safety a priority in their workplace,” he said.
The WorkSafe Tasmania Awards, now in their 16th year, are the finale of Safe Work Tasmania Month
and are a positive opportunity to recognise and reward those Tasmanian businesses committed to
work health and safety.
