Herald Sun ordered to post corrections with Bolt column

Posted on

The Federal Court has ordered the Herald and Weekly Times to publish two correction notices about articles by columnist Andrew Bolt that breached the Racial Discrimination Act.

Bolt was found guilty last month over the two articles which accused a group of Aboriginal people of using their heritage for financial benefits.

The Herald Sun newspaper must publish the corrections in print and online, adjacent to Bolt’s column, and in the next two weeks.

Two of the men who were among the group which sued Bolt say they are satisfied with the court order.

Wayne and Graham Atkinson, two fair-skinned Aboriginal men who were racially vilified in Bolt’s articles, say it was an important fight.

“Most of the group would like to move on now. It was a long court case,” Graham said.

Wayne says he is pleased with the outcome.

“We look forward to living normal lives as proud Aboriginal people,” he said.
