Government must take real action to keep waterways safe from dangerous chemicals
Environment Tasmania has today expressed concern that chemicals have been detected in Tasmanian waterways at levels that are well above Australian drinking water guidelines. A recent round of testing in 47 Tasmanian waterways has detected dangerous levels of agricultural chemicals at four locations.
“Even low doses of these chemicals have adverse short- term and long -term effects on environmental and human health. The findings of this latest round of testing is very alarming”, said Emma Anglesey from Environment Tasmania.
“The problem in Tasmania is the types of chemicals used and the way they are applied”, she continued.
“In the European Union they apply the precautionary approach and chemical- manufacturing companies must prove through providing adequate data sets, that their chemical products are safe before they can be licensed for use. This approach has led to the banning of 77 dangerous pesticides in the EU that are still used in Tasmania today. Tasmanians should have the same protection from these dangerous products as they do in Europe”, she continued.
“The state government needs to demonstrate a genuine commitment to the safety of the Tasmanian community by implementing strong regulations that limit and control the use of dangerous pesticides”, she concluded.

Dr. Frederick Vom Saal Preeminent Endocrinologist Speaks Out on Government Failures to Protect Public Against Harm Imposed by Bisphenol A Exposures
Dr. Vom Saal provides a beautiful description of the scientific literature, which supports the conclusion that bisphenol A (BPA) exposure imposes a substantial quantity of disease risk upon the general public as a result of the use of BPA in our economy. After setting the stage with this brilliant performance, he then presents a powerful charge against the corporate dominated government entities responsible for regulating the use of chemicals and safety of food. Dr. Vom Saal indicts the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for their failures to act upon scientific knowledge for the protection of public health. He carefully explains his basis for criticizing the FDA and WHO.
Donald L. Hassig, Director, Cancer Action NY shares his experiences of similar FDA and WHO failures involving the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) cancer hazard. What Vom Saal and Hassig state is a wake up call for everyone. The governments and the corporations do not care about how much disease is caused by doing business. Making more money regardless of the harm that this causes to environment and health is all that matters to the corporate-government culture. Opposing this wrongful behavior is the only sound path for the people to walk upon. So as to have hope for good health among us, the corporate-government culture must be stopped from imposing further poisoning upon the world.
This interview will raise up one, intense cry for profound change in the heart and mind of every reasonable human being. “Viva the Revolution. Down with the corporate overlords who have poisoned the world and all of its inhabitants. Down with these criminals and the governments that have helped them hide their crimes as they continue to commit them.” It is time, far past time, to stand up and bring an end to these abuses of the Earth Mother and her children. “Viva the Global, Spiritual, Environmental Revolution.”
