Hobart Women’s Shelter, with the support of Hobart Women’s Health Centre and funding from the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet, is launching a pilot project that aims to build a community’s ability to reduce violence.

The Interventions from the Heart project was born from Shirley O’Toole’s frustration at not knowing how to respond to a situation of family violence in her neighbourhood.
In sharing her story, Shirley recognised that the fear that had held her powerless prevented many people from taking action when they saw others, and especially children, being abused.

A series of four forums are being held across Hobart and Glenorchy, with the first being on Tuesday September 20 at West Moonah Community House at 7.00pm.
Forums follow at South Hobart Primary on September 21, Lenah Valley Primary on September 27 and Montrose Bay High on September 28, all commencing at 7.00pm.

There will be a diverse panel of speakers at each forum including staff of Hobart Women’s Shelter, JLD Restorative Practices, CCORD training, Tasmania Police, Tasmen and Hobart Women’s Health Centre.

Come along on the night or register your interest by calling Hobart Women’s Health Centre on 6231-3212.
