End Speed Limit signs must go 4

The Tasmanian Greens today called on the Minister for Infrastructure, David O’Byrne, to support calls for an end to the confusing and ambiguous “End Speed Limit” signs around Tasmania, and to replace them with proper speed limit signage.

Greens Infrastructure spokesperson Tim Morris MP said the Greens and RACT have been calling for an end to these ambiguous signs, which the Minister said is likely to be formalised following the September meeting of the Tasmanian Road Safety Council (TRSC).

“The “End Speed Limit” signs are ambiguous and cause confusion, not only for Tasmanians, but those travelling from interstate, as well as causing drivers to inadvertently speed unintentionally,” Mr Morris said.

“The Greens have supported an end to this signage, and it is pleasing to see the RACT write to Member of Parliament also calling for an end to this confusing signage, and replace it with clear posted speed limits.”

“With changes soon to be finalised on rural default speeds, this is the perfect opportunity to also update these signs to remove confusion and provide clarity in specific speed limited areas,” Mr Morris said.
