1 Million Carbon Tax impacts on running costs of Hobart City Council

Posted on

Hobart City Council’s bill for the carbon tax could top 1 million dollars said Alderman Jeff Briscoe said today and with no compensation in sight from the federal government.

“This extra expense for the city will mean that rates will rise unless the federal government compensates the HCC and other councils for the cost of the carbon tax”

“It is time the community fought back against this constant increase in water, electricity and now, further costs due to the carbon tax the HCC will have to pay.”

“Hobart Council has reduced greenhouse gases by 70% over the last 10 years and it appears that there is no recognition of this.”

“I believe that we as a community should all do our bit to reduce greenhouse gases but to slug the Hobart City Council and thus its ratepayers more tax, without compensation is a bit insulting.”

“I will be introducing a motion to the next Hobart City Council meeting to seek Council’s view on the carbon tax and investigate more fully the impact on the Council and community. It may be that lobbying by the council on behalf of the Community to the Federal Government will attract action.”
