Moonah Arts Centre’s popular Friday Night Concert Series continues on Friday June 3, with one of the rising starts of Tasmania’s folk and roots scene – The Blue Mosquitoes.
This concert by the fast-rising Mozzies pays tribute to Tasmania’s convict past in their unique brand of Celtic folk and contemporary sounds.

In July this vibrant young group heads off to Ireland and the UK for a series of club dates and festivals so make sure to catch them before they go.

The Blue Mosquitoes have an energetic, vibrant sound – mixing traditional Celtic music with contemporary sounds and are aiming to take their music to a whole new generation. The band’s new album ‘Paper Boats’ is a collection of stunning compositions which convey also the vocal and instrumental skills of the band members.

The band’s sound is rooted deeply in Celtic music, with an undeniably Australian character. The Blue Mosquitoes formed in 2006 and comprises Hannah Foley (fiddle, vocals) and Stuart Foley ( guitar, mandolin), their cousin Chris Boon (bodhran, guitar, mandolin, vocals), Chris Coleman (bass, backing vocals) and Lindsay Meldrum (backing vocals).

The Blue Mosquitoes play regularly around Tasmania and have a growing reputation in the Australian music scene as an exciting band with a big future. Their career highlights to-date include an on stage performance with Dougie Maclean and supporting the legendary Saw Doctors on the Tasmanian leg of their 2010 national tour.

The band has performed at the National Folk festival in Canberra, Newstead Live (Victoria) and many music festivals and leading music venues in their home state of Tasmania. The band is very excited about their upcoming ‘Paper Boats’ tour of UK and Ireland to take place in July 2011 where they aim to promote their new album to an international audience.
