Federal Action Required to Maintain Essential GP Services

The Tasmanian Greens today said they would be pursuing concerns raised by locals about the potential impact on their community should Brighton lose its GP service, due to restrictions imposed upon current GP Dr. Rasamak Amini.

Greens Member for Lyons, Tim Morris MP, said it is absolutely imperative that Brighton retains a doctor surgery and he will be contacting the State and Federal Health Minsters, urging them to act to save or restore the service.

“Maintaining a doctor surgery in Brighton is absolutely essential for the fast growing town and region, to assure the community that their basic health needs will not be put at risk,” Mr Morris said.

“I will work with the Greens Senators on this issue and will write to state Health Minister, Michelle O’Byrne, as well as her federal counterpart, Minister Nicola Roxon, encouraging them to ensure proper alterations are considered to allow GP services to remain in Brighton.”

“The Greens’ Lyons office has had numerous contacts on the issue of medical services being provided in Brighton, and I know this is an important matter for the community of Brighton.”

“I look forward to hearing from the Ministers on how this issue can be resolved to return confidence to the community that the medical services it requires will continue,” Mr Morris said.
