Dear Michelle O’Byrne and Bryan Green
Dear Michelle and Bryan,
Following on the email below from Dr Matt Landos, can you please explain why atrazine – an known EDC with a half life of over 200 days (cf Q’land of 12 days), a toxic metabolite and a known ground water contaminant, still allowed to be used in Tasmania with no restrictions?
Why has it and the other triazines not been banned as part of the preventative health strategy?
Why have the 77 most dangerous pesticides still used in Tasmania not been programmed for substitution by safer pesticides?
Heaven knows Tasmania has more than its share of obesity, diabetes, prostate and breast cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
Kind regards
Alison

Dear Nicola,
Given each of these conditions is increasing in prevalence in humans, and particularly in farmers, I think these new studies v recently published need to urgently be communicated to farmers, so they can understand the risks which they are taking.
Australia’s chemical regulator(APVMA) does not assess all registered chemicals for their potential endocrine(hormone) disrupting impacts.
The science and scientists are saying we should immediately do so.
The health budget is also suggesting we need to urgently look towards preventative solutions to diseases like diabetes/obesity/parkinsons/breast and prostate cancer.

These risks, particularly endocrine disruption, have not been assessed in any form, for more than 70% of the pesticide products in use on the market in Australia.
All attached articles are published in high quality journals.
The EU is acting swiftly to reduce risk for their people.
Why is the APVMA being allowed to jeopardise the health of Australians, most particularly that of our farmers?
Best regards
Matt
