The Tasmanian Greens today marked the 12 month anniversary of the cross-bench Party’s historic milestone of having two Greens Ministers, by pledging to build on the strong foundations which have underpinned a year of stable government that has delivered positive policy outcomes.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that the Greens hard work over the last year through both their ministerial portfolios and on the floor of the Parliament is demonstrated by the fact that at least 36 key Greens’ initiatives have been delivered which is an average of three policy outcomes per month for the last 12 months.
“The last 12 months have seen a “greening-up” of the Government with greater transparency, environmental and social outcomes,” Mr McKim said.
“We have worked hard to ensure that this unique opportunity presented by having two seats at the Cabinet table, delivers progressive outcomes based on Greens’ policies.”
“This first year has seen stable government. We have also been productive with an average of at least three policy outcomes being delivered each month over the last 12 months.”
“This is a track record which surpasses anything achievable from the opposition benches.”
“Some of these policies have been delivered through our ministerial portfolios, while others have been secured on the floor of the Parliament and through budget negotiations.”
“These first 12 months have laid solid foundations upon which we are determined to build. Tasmanians have long been calling for their elected representatives to work together in a mature manner in the interests of the community instead of playing point-scoring adversarial political games.”
“There will be challenges ahead, we are aware of that. However this last year has demonstrated that it is possible to be constructive and work to find common ground in a power sharing Parliament, and the Greens intend to continue to be propositional.”
“Labor also deserves credit for the constructive approach towards co-operative Government by former Premier David Bartlett and current Premier Lara Giddings,” Mr McKim said.
On the 21st of April 2010 the Greens achieved a state and national first when Greens Leader Nick McKim MP was sworn in as Greens Minister and Cassy O’Connor MP was sworn in as Secretary to Cabinet. The Party then achieved their second Minister when Cassy O’Connor MP was sworn in as Minister for Human Services and Community Development on December the 6th.

Libs release new ad to mark one year of Labor-Green government
Thursday 21st April 2011
The Tasmanian Liberals today released a new Youtube video to mark one year of the Green-Labor government.
“This video highlights the fact that after one year of the Green-Labor Government, Tasmania is closed for business”, State Director Jonathan Hawkes said today.
“Both former Premier David Bartlett and current Premier Lara Giddings previously warned that a minority government deal with the Greens would result in disaster for our economy, and they have been proven absolutely correct.
“Our economy has stagnated, the budget’s a wreck, private capital investment has plummeted, and the only economic policies the government has are to shut down the forest industry, ban development, and sacks thousands of teachers, police and nurses.
“Tasmanians are now paying the price of Labor’s incompetence and of the Greens having too much influence over the government’s economic policies.”
