Submission to allow hempseed for human consumption in Australia

Posted on

Hempseed is the most amazing food stuff containing high levels of omega 3,6 and 9 fatty acids and about 25% protein.

In 2002 it was passed for human consumption by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand but unfortunately overturned by state and federal governments at the time. This decision is now being reviewed and submissions are invited by 27th April 2011 via email if possible to submissions@foodstandards.gov.au or snailmail to

Since Canada lifted the restrictions on its production in 1998 it has burgeoned there to a $million industry. This is the last chance to have a viable clean green industry here in Tasmania with numerous opportunities for value-adding industries which will boost jobs growth and the local economy.
