The Oaktree Foundation are inviting the youth of Tasmania to apply for the 2011 MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY Action Lab.
The Oaktree Foundation will select 100 Australians who demonstrate leadership in eradicating extreme poverty, with 10 positions open in Tasmania. The three day intensive Action Lab will be held in Sydney from April 1-3 where leaders will receive training from experts and experienced campaigners.
Leaders will gain experience in roundtable discussions with experts from major Australian NGOs and anti-poverty organisations, as well as, interacting with the communication and strategy specialists behind GetUp!, Australian Youth Climate Coalition and more.
“Many of the greatest historical leaders, such as William Wilberforce who led the movement to abolish slavery, did so in their youth. Young people can achieve great things and this an amazing opportunity being offered”, Jess Jacobson, Tasmanian Director of the Oaktree Foundation, said.
Oaktree Tasmania’s Campaigns Manager Laura McIlhenny, stated that after the Action Lab, participants will be at the centre of the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY Campaign for 2011. “We’ll see them implement a groundbreaking and ambitious campaign to shift the way that politicians and members of the public in Australia think about the issue”, Ms McIlhenny said.
Catelyn Richards from Oaktree Tasmania stated that, “being selected for a workshop like the MPH Action lab and sharing it with 99 other Australians builds an unshakeable belief that we can create a world free from extreme poverty”.
