Did I miss it?
Was anyone charged over the 12-year old kid prostituted by her mother and family friend?
Oh that’s right, the Department of Public Prosecutions felt they couldn’t charge, or even name, any of the 100 (or 200) blokes who broke the law. And none of the Government or public service bosses wanted to sack or demote those civil servants ‘responsible’ for the kid’s welfare.
They’re a bit tougher in the Northern Territory, though, according to this ABC story, HERE:
A Northern Territory youth worker has been charged for failing to report the suspected sexual abuse of a child.
It is the first time anyone has been prosecuted for the offence in the Territory.
Police say the woman allegedly witnessed the sexualised behaviour of a five-year-old child at a remote community on two occasions in October and December.
Police say the youth worker reported her concerns to management only after the second incident.
The woman has been summoned to appear in court on the charge of breaching the Territory’s Care and Protection of Children Act.
Under the Act it is mandatory for youth workers to report suspected incidents of child abuse.
The youth worker will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court next week.
And, later
The DPP’s decision not to prosecute any of the men who had sex with the 12-year old, apart from MLC and ‘Labor rat’ Terry Martin, had an aftermath at a hearing of the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal last week.
The Mercury’s reporter David Killick wrote HERE:
THE complainant in a discrimination case accused the respondent – Tony Jacobs, DPP Principal Crown Counsel – of raping a 12-year-old girl.
In a lengthy tirade from the witness box at the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal, property developer Soheil Mehrab Khani, accused Tony Jacobs of rape.
“You were one of them, you were one of them, you were one of the ones who raped the 12-year-old girl,” he shouted.
Mr Khani claimed Mr Jacobs was part of what he alleged was a cover-up by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of a recent high-profile child prostitution case.
“The DPP, which Mr Jacobs is part of, would not name names. Why is this? I suggest you might be one of them,” Mr Khani said.
“I’m getting personal because he started it. I’m asking the DPP to reveal these names, to reveal your name.”
