Let Lobsters Live – Ban Live Export for Good!
An activist with Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) will be wearing nothing but lobster coloured body paint, lying in a “flaming cooking pot” to highlight the extreme cruelty of the lobster industry. The Tasmanian activist will be “tagged” with the destination country and transportation method that lobsters endure to reach their final fate of being boiled or chopped up alive.
Every year more than 100,000 Tasmanian Rock Lobsters are snatched from their environment, 80-90% of which are exported live under stressful, unnatural conditions. The Southern Rock Lobster is also under threat of extinction from ‘over-fishing’ which in turn is causing a serious imbalance in our marine ecosystems.
“Thousands of rock lobsters are artificially concentrated in tanks on boats at sea from the time they are first dragged out of their natural surroundings. Many are dying in these unnatural conditions before they reach their final destination.” Chris Simcox, spokesperson for AACT explains. “Lobsters have highly sophisticated nervous systems, so without a scientific doubt they can feel fear and pain The simplest way to end the lobsters’ agony is for people to leave them off their plate – for good.” concluded Mr Simcox.
