Calendar of Events early 2011
Break O’Day Regional Arts committee will strive to bring you ongoing visual arts and performing arts throughout all of 2011.
Our first event of the New Year will be the St Marys Markets held on January 1st, the same day that the St Marys Pacing Club hold their annual Race Day
We hope to present 10 visual art exhibitions through the year, these will be hosted by Gone Rustic Studios and Escape Cafe and Art Gallery. The committee are also looking for new venues where art exhibitions are able to be hosted. We are currently following up a new gallery in St Helens where we hope to host at least one exhibition. More details to follow.
The first art exhibition in the New Year will be “Tasmania 1 : 100,000 Mapping the Island” to be hosted at Escape Cafe … watch the notice boards for announcement of the launch date. This exhibition includes works by 44 artists curated by Penny Carey-Wells & Diane Perndt. Selected national and international artists, including poets, chefs, wine makers, dancers, musicians, papermakers, printmakers and mixed visual artists, received a section taken from a topographical map of Tasmania. They were asked to create a two-dimensional paper based response. Over 140 works were received and some of these will be displayed early in the year at the Escape Cafe.
In February, the committee hopes to present the “NSW Challenge Quilts – What Tickles Your Fancy” at Gone Rustic studios and an Outdoor Cinema Event at the Wombat Walk.
Details for these events are not yet finalised so please watch the local notice boards for more details as arrangements are firmed up or call the Secretary of the committee Janet Drummond on 6372 2851.
Looking forward to seeing lots of community members at what are shaping up to be some wonderful visual and performing art events for 2011!! And don’t forget the committee is always looking for new volunteers to come on board and help provide art events in your community.
