Tasmanian Liberal Senator Eric Abetz says he will leave it up to the High Court to decide his right to remain in Parliament.
Antique dealer John Hawkins ( On TT HERE )has lodged a petition claiming Senator Abetz is not eligible to be elected because he is a citizen of both Australia and his birth place, Germany.
But Senator Abetz says he renounced his German citizenship in 1993.
“Anything that I might say in relation to that High Court challenge will be said to the High Court,” he said.
“But after 16 years in the Senate I trust that I am entitled to sit there but the High Court will undoubtedly make its determination.”
The case will be heard in the High Court in Melbourne.
