More Clayton's dredging 4

The Chairman of Southern Marine Ship Lift John Barnes may be glowing in his opinion of our fair city (Examiner Aug.18th) but his concerns in regard to the Tamar certainly don’t reflect well in reality.

Southern Marine was trusted with the contract of dredging the Basin but after some 6 years of expensive experimentation, also many early criticisms of the inept equipment being used, the river has never been in a worse state in living memory despite many millions of dollars being wasted on the ignorant folly.

Of course Mr. Barnes would want to see more dredging, How much of the $25million income quoted came from the latest Clayton’s dredging effort. There surely must be some responsibility to the obvious risks of serious problems looming any time soon by spreading this already declared highly contaminated material in public areas without due care and responsibility.

The Bartlett announcement is no more than to be expected (Examiner Aug 23rd) a glaring example of the ongoing Tamar problems confirming the total lack proper representation to the electorate of Bass over several decades, all part of a sad history.
