Greens move to introduce $1 bet limit on pokies

Posted on

The Tasmanian Greens today tabled an amendment bill to introduce a $1 bet limit on all poker machines operating in the state.

Greens Gaming spokesperson Kim Booth MP said that prior to the March State election both the Greens and the Liberals had attempted to amend government legislation to introduce a $1 bet limit but that the majority government of the day had blocked those attempts.

“The Greens are optimistic that given the current power-sharing Parliament we will succeed in introducing a $1 dollar bet limit on all poker machines operating in Tasmania, as called for by many NGOs and consumer advocacy groups,” Mr Booth said.

“Last year both the Greens and the Liberals attempted to insert this much needed restriction on betting amounts for pokies, but the Labor majority government used its numbers to block that move.

“Hopefully with Liberal support we will succeed in this important gaming consumer protection measure.”
