Aurora’s hand out

AURORA Energy is believed to have requested a $200 million cash injection from the State Government.

The government business enterprise is understood to have run into financial difficulties stemming from the purchase of the Bell Bay gas-fired power station and a multi-million-dollar blowout in the cost of a new electronic billing system.

Treasurer Michael Aird yesterday confirmed he had had recent briefings from Aurora Energy but refused to comment on whether a formal funding request had been received in the context of the upcoming State Budget.

“I expect to have further briefings in coming weeks,” Mr Aird said.
