Tasmanians 'haven't forgotten' 4

On Thursday night, there was standing room only at the Moonah Arts Centre and heard Dr Warwick Raverty and Tom Baxter articulate why we need to “Clean Up Our Polluted Politics”. Dr Raverty told his story about taking a stand against political interference in the pulp mill process, and legal scholar Tom Baxter explained the ins and outs of “Section 11” (the Gunns immunity clause) which essentially legalised corruption.

The extended standing ovation given to Dr Raverty was the most powerful moment that many in the audience had seen during this election campaign.

Given the event was organised at short notice by GetUp! Australia and our common ground, the attendance and response showed that Tasmanians haven’t forgotten what Labor and Liberal did in over-riding democracy, accountability and the public interest. And that this special state deserves a lot better from its politicians.

Make March 20th Clean Up Tasmania Day! Tell the politicians that it’s time to end the Gunnerment and put an end to the unhealthy links between big forestry and our democracy.
