
The biggest single step that could be made to reduce Australia’s carbon-dioxide emissions would be to replace the four Victorian brown coal power stations (among the most carbon-intesnive in the world because of the high carbon content of the low quality brown coal they burn). Kevin Rudd wants them to just “disappear”, which won’t happen.
If there is no plan in place within the next two years to replace the four Victorian brown coal power stations, it would be hard to argue with anyone who claimed the current governmebt was NOT SERIOUS about reducing Australia’s CO2 emissions.
